Road Trip Part 2

The second stop for our road-trip was the Homestead Tower and Home Museum.

Since the last two house have not worked out. We decided that a historic home maybe the way to go. The tower and home was built during the 1930′s era. Jenn and I have always enjoyed historic museums and homes.

The New Deal was a program for the country to help stimulate jobs, provide opportunities for affordable housing and restore hope. It was started by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Homestead project was picked as a project of the New Deal.

The house was about a mile away from the Homestead Tower.

The history behind the project is fascinating. We had a great time seeing and talking about history.

That’s it for the road-trip.

Road-Trip Part 1

It’s the last full week off before school starts. We decided to take a road-trip. We went to Crossville, TN. to see the famous minister’s tree house.

We were looking for some vacation property since the house in Aspen did not work out. We thought that it was important to look at a cheaper and more eco-friendly house. This one was well within our price range but had no indoor plumbing and it would be hard to move around at night.

The tree-house was built by Horace Burgess. The inspiration came to him one day in a vision at 1993.

Here are some facts about the tree house:

It about 8,000-10,000 ft.

258,000 nails used give or take a few hundred.

10 floors each about 9-11 ft. in height.

It rises 97 ft.

This was an excellent little road-trip for us. It allowed us to see the world a little bit differently.

The Road-trip is not finished yet. There will be a part 2 tomorrow.

Colorado Stories

Here are some stories from our journey.

On our way up the Rocky mountains, we stopped at one of the lookout points to take pictures.  This lookout point had some wildlife just posing for the tourists. Many little chipmunks and birds were just playing and posing for the camera. One of the birds did something really weird. It just laid down and played dead as everyone was taking pictures and after about 10 minutes, it then pulled itself up and started just walking around. It was pretty weird.

On another note my brother and his family like to take stranger kids pictures or lurker pictures. It was funny to see my brother’s kids act like little lurker kids. You look at the pictures and you see two little faces just sort of in the picture. It was quite funny.

A photographer must always experiment in order to get a good shot. Here is one such experiment with a big mountain and a weird tree.

Jenn is in a good spot but Cade looks like a blue colored branch here.

Jenn always runs into people in just all kinds of places. This trip was no different. We reached the top of Pikes Peak and she runs into someone from Martinsville, Indiana. Yes at 14,ooo ft., Jenn knows someone from her hometown. We rode the Cog railway and they allow 40 mins on top and that is not enough time up there at all. Jenn always amazes me on how she always runs into someone wherever we go.
